Castle of Prampero

in News and events

The castle, situated to the west of the village of Magnano in Riviera, has very ancient origins. According to scholars, as early as late antiquity, there was a watchtower guarding the important road leading from Aquileia to Noricum, beyond the Alps.
The first documentdating from 1225 records the transfer of the fief from the lords of Pramperg to their noble relatives in Gemona, who took their surname from the fief they resided in, thus becoming the Prampero family. It was inhabited by the descendants of the same family until the 1976 earthquake.

It is currently open to visitors as part of the exhibition “Afro at Prampero Castle. The Atelier Del Silenzio (1961–1976)”. A journey through the deep connection between Afro Basaldella, Prampero Castle and the Friuli region, recreating the atmosphere of summers spent amidst painting, friendships, affection and artistic exploration. A narrative that reveals to the public the most intimate and authentic side of the Master.

Opening hours from 13 until 13 September:
Thursday and Friday from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm

Saturdays and Sundays from 11.00 to 19.00

Ingresso gratuito prenotazione obbligatoria
