Museum of Ethnography of Friuli and the exhibition ‘On the Threshold’. Symbols and rituals of death in Friuli”
The Friuli Ethnographic Museum, situated in the historic Borgo Grazzano in Udine, houses a rich and varied collection covering various aspects of local traditional culture spanning the 18th to the 20th centuries. The museum’s collection was built up thanks to donations from Gaetano Perusini and Luigi and Andreina Ciceri. The museum features three exhibition areas: a permanent exhibition, two rotating galleries and spaces for temporary exhibitions or guest exhibitions.
Until 29 November, it is hosting the exhibition ‘On the Threshold: Symbols and Rituals of Death in Friuli’, featuring photographs by Carlo Innocenti.
The exhibition traces the gradual change in mourning practices: from an experience lived out within the home and the community, characterised by shared rituals, prayers and customs, to increasingly intimate and individual ways of saying farewell. This change reflects the profound social and cultural transformations that have taken place over time.
